As well as the “Seven Ages Series”, I have also written several standalone longer pieces that I suppose are novels or novellas. I was never really clear on the difference. These, I will include here as they are published and will include links to where you may purchase/find them. Soon, they will appear in this section, in the following order. The Canadian Wilderness has much to teach us, as I discovered when I talked the owner into hiring me to guide American tourists at a remote but exclusive fishing lodge in Northern Ontario. The main character discovers many conceptions of what it is to be “a man” in the recounting of the past and what it is to become “a father” in the ‘present’ section of the book. An earlier version of this novel made the short list in a competition held by the Globe and Mail for first time novelists.
I am very thankful for all of the people who I met and worked among in Northern Ontario, but especially to Richard Klyne, Ron Williams and their families for giving me a chance to experience their world. The novel is dedicated to all of our boys, but especially to Matthew and Mark, who appear in it under other names.

My grandfather, Lewis Haigh, was one of my first readers. He was a remarkable man. Years ago, I began writing the tales of his exploits and giving them to him as Christmas presents. After he passed away, which is described in this novel/collection of stories, I was surprised and pleased to find that he had saved them through household moves and a couple of decades. When my mother asked me to represent the Canadian arm of the family as Grandad lay on his deathbed in a hospice in Elland, I agreed and travelled to Yorkshire. That experience became the shell of this book. His stories and those of my mother and her two sisters provided the rest. My apologies to my family for fictional liberties taken.
